Disobedient God: Trusting a God who goes off-script
Message Overview:
There are going to be many times in our walk with God when things don’t go as planned, when
God’s plan for our life doesn’t align with the narrative we have for our own lives. Our response
in these moments is crucial. Instead of replacing Him, performing for Him, running from Him,
focusing on the lack in our lives or controlling people or situations around us – we need to
confess to Him, rest in Him and reach for Him. We don’t want to become a stumbling block to
God’s plan for our lives, but submit to His will and learn to trust the God who goes oB-
(our)script.
Key Scriptures:
Romans 9:20 Who are you, a mere human being, to argue with God? Should the thing that was created say to the one who created it, “Why have you made me like this?”
Luke 10:38-42 Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. 39 And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to his teaching. 40 But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.” 41 But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, 42 but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.”
Matthew 16:21-23 From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life. Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. “Never, Lord!” he said. “This shall never happen to you!” Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”
Isaiah 55:9 For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.
James 4:8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.

Quote:
Albert Tate, Author of Disobedient God
“Okay, here’s the test. Even when I’m disobedient, can you still rest in me? Even when I’ve got you in a place you never would have signed up for, can you still take time and trust Me enough to rest in Me? Can your response to My disobedience, to My Sovereignty, to Me being a God who refuses to compromise My will because of your passionate desire be one of rest and not running? You don’t replace me. You don’t perform for me. But, come here, you rest in Me and allow Me to be the sovereign God I am. I’m faithful and I can get you through a hard time.”
