Sunday Recap - Made New: Identity in Christ - 27th April 2025

Made New: Identity in Christ – Week 1

Message Overview:

The World around us wants to determine who and what our identity should be. As followers of Jesus our identity can and should only be found in Jesus, our standing as a child of God. Jonny encouraged us that only by finding our identity in Christ will we experience contentment and peace in life.

Connected to our identity, Jonny asked us to consider two big questions: ‘Who am I’ and ‘Why am I here’. These questions can be answered when we understand we have been made in the image of God. Being made in the image of God means we have been made with inherent value, dignity and worth. As Jesus followers we have been redeemed to reflect the image of the God to the world around us which is our meaning and purpose for life.

Key Scriptures:

2 Corinthians 5:21 For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.
Ephesians 4:22-23 You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds;24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.
Genesis 1:27 So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them
Genesis 9:6 “Whoever sheds human blood, by humans shall their blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made mankind.
James 3:9 With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness
Colossians 3:10 We have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.
