Focus Sunday: Anointed - Sunday Feb 8th 2026
Message Overview:
Each year at Grace we have a focus which unites us as a church community. This year our word and focus is ‘Anointed’. Our focus for 2026 is to step into the authority we have as followers of Jesus to push darkness in our world back and see The Kingdom of God advance through the power of The Holy Spirit.
The anointing is the power of God upon display - in us, through us, around us and upon us through the person and presence of The Holy Spirit. This has been displayed all the way through the scriptures. The first account of this is found in Exodus 31:1-5 when The Holy Spirit came upon Bezalel to create and craft The Tabernacle.
Matthew Chapter 3 records Jesus baptism, during which it says The Holy Spirit descended upon Him. From this moment forward, Jesus operated in the anointing of The Holy Spirit to preach about The Kingdom of God, perform signs, wonders and miracles for The Kingdom of God.
By putting our trust and faith in Him as saviour and lord of our lives, we are now anointed by the same Holy Spirit to do what Jesus did.
Jonny encouraged us to live by the following principles in order to see the anointing activated in our lives:
- Believe and trust the word of God
- Live in intimacy with Jesus
- Pursue holiness

Key Scriptures:
| Luke 4:18-19 “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, 19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s Exodus 31:1-5 Then the Lord said to Moses, 2 “See, I have chosen Bezalel son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, 3 and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills— 4 to make artistic designs for work in gold, silver and bronze, 5 to cut and set stones, to work in wood, and to engage in all kinds of crafts. 1 Samuel 16:13 So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon David. Samuel then went to Ramah. Acts 10:37-38 You know what has happened throughout the province of Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached— 38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him. 1 John 2:20-22 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth. I do not write to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it and because no lie comes from the truth.22 Who is the liar? It is whoever denies that Jesus is the Christ. John 15:5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 1 Peter 1:15-16 But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.” |
