Sunday Recap - Pastor Georgie Kettle - 17 August 2025

Sunday 17 August 2025 – Pastor Georgie Kettle

Message Overview:

This past Sunday, Pastor Georgie continued our 'Living a Life of Worship' series. The story of King David bringing the Ark of the Covenant into Jerusalem is a great example of doing a 'good thing' the wrong way.

Key points that we can learn from the story:
- Let's not allow familiarity with the presence of God lead to irreverence, complacency or apathy in our lives. We need to honour God with awe and reverence.
- Knowing the Word of God and inquiring of God about HIS ways is going to help us to live life the right way.
-  We are now a priesthood, called to minister to God and people, and we must consecrate ourselves. We are called to live 'set apart' with clean hands and a pure heart.
- The fact that we carry the presence of God should impact how we live our day to day lives.
- The priests in the OT were to carry the Ark (and God's presence) on their shoulders. For us now, carrying the presence of God with us might feel heavy at times. We need to feel the weight of a life lived for God - and also realise the privilege this is.
- A life carrying the presence of God with us, a life of worship to Him, is not going to be comfortable or convenient.
- Let's remember God is a God of second chances.
- As we worship Him, we have to let go of any ego, pride, agenda.

Key Scriptures:

Romans 12: 1
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.

2 Samuel 6
The whole chapter

Hebrews 12:28-29
28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, 29 for our “God is a consuming fire.”

1 Chronicles 15:12-15
12 He said to them, “You are the heads of the Levitical families; you and your fellow Levites are to consecrate yourselves and bring up the ark of the Lord, the God of Israel, to the place I have prepared for it. 13 It was because you, the Levites, did not bring it up the first time that the Lord our God broke out in anger against us. We did not inquire of him about how to do it in the prescribed way.” 14 So the priests and Levites consecrated themselves in order to bring up the ark of the Lord, the God of Israel. 15 And the Levites carried the ark of God with the poles on their shoulders, as Moses had commanded in accordance with the word of the Lord.
