Sunday Recap - Mother's Day - Two Anointed Mothers

Two Anointed Mothers
Message Overview:
Last Sunday Georgie shared about two Mothers from scripture - Sarah and Elizabeth. Their stories hold so many similarities - yet their response to God was totally different. Key points from the message:
- How we wait on God to fulfill his promises is important.- God is faithful and WILL fulfil his promise to us, regardless of our behaviour HOWEVER, our actions have consequences that can impact our life and the life of those around us.
- We are not alone in our faith journey. The Bible is a witness to God's faithfulness throughout history, and we are surrounded by others who can testify of God's goodness and faithfulness. So let us run with perseverance the race set out for us, in the power of the Holy Spirit.
Key Scriptures:
| Sarah and Abraham's story can be found in Genesis 11 - 21. In particular, Sarah's story is in the following portions: Genesis 12:1-3 Genesis 15:1-5 Genesis 16:1-5 Genesis 18:1-15 Genesis 21:1-2 Elizabeth and Zechariah's story can be found in Luke 1:5-25 Other scriptures: James 4:6-8 says God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Luke 1:39-45 39 At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea, 40 where she entered Zechariah’s home and greeted Elizabeth. 41 When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. 42 In a loud voice she exclaimed: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear! 43 But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? 44 As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. 45 Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!” Hebrews 12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. |
