Sunday Recap - Sunday 25th October - ANOINTED Acts 20:22-24

Comfortable with being uncomfortable -  ACTS Chapter 20 - Pastor Jonny Kettle

Message Overview:

In Acts 20:22–24, Paul models a life of radical obedience. Even though the Holy Spirit has warned him that hardship, prison, and suffering lie ahead, Paul chooses to follow God’s leading rather than pursue personal comfort. This message reminds us that while God is a God of comfort who meets us in our pain, the goal of the Christian life is not comfort—it is obedience. Often, it is through seasons of discomfort, challenge, and sacrifice that God deepens our faith, teaches us dependence on His grace, and forms Christlike character in us. Like Paul, we are invited to trust that God’s grace is sufficient and to say “yes” to Jesus even when the path ahead feels difficult.

Key Scriptures
•Acts 20:22–24
•Luke 9:57–62
•Luke 14:27, 33
•2 Corinthians 12:7–9
•Romans 5:3–5

Discussion Questions
1. When has God used an uncomfortable season to grow your faith?
- Paul followed God’s leading despite knowing hardship was ahead. Looking back on your life, can you identify a difficult or uncomfortable season that God used to strengthen your trust in Him?

2. What is the difference between receiving God’s comfort and pursuing a comfortable life?
- The sermon highlighted that God comforts us, but we are not called to make comfort our highest priority. How can comfort sometimes become an obstacle to obedience?

3. Where might God be asking you to choose obedience over comfort right now?
- Consider areas such as forgiveness, generosity, serving, sharing your faith, prayer, relationships, or personal holiness. What “uncomfortable yes” might God be inviting you into?

4. How have you experienced God’s sufficient grace during a challenge?
- In 2 Corinthians 12, Paul learns that God’s power is made perfect in weakness. Can you share a time when God sustained you through a situation rather than removing it?

5. What character qualities is God developing in you through your current circumstances?
- Romans 5 teaches that suffering produces perseverance, character, and hope. Which of these do you sense God is forming in your life at this season?

Application Challenge
This week, identify one area where comfort may be preventing obedience. Take one practical step of faith—whether that is having a difficult conversation, serving someone, giving generously, extending forgiveness, or recommitting to prayer—and trust God’s grace to meet you there.
