Sunday Recap - Pastor Jonny Kettle - 3 August 2025

Sunday 3 August 2025 – Pastor Jonny Kettle

Message Overview:

This past Sunday, we began a new series called ‘Living a life of worship’.
Worship is a central theme of scripture. In God's original design for humanity, the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve lived their lives as worship in response to God's presence. Sin soon entered the world and not only separated us in our relationship with God but corrupted our worship to Him. God set His plan of redemption into motion to bring us back into relationship with him and also to restore our worship to Him.

Worship is more than the two slow songs we sing together at Church on a Sunday but instead us a way of life, all that we do is worship to God as a response to who He is and what He has done for us.

Jonny encouraged us with these five statements regarding Worship:

- You were made to worship
- You were made to worship God
- God has made a way for our worship to please Him
- True worship is in the spirit and in the truth
- Worship is a way of life

Key Scriptures:

Genesis 1:1
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth

Colossians 1:13
For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, 14 who purchased our freedom[a] and forgave our sins.

Philippians 2:9-11
Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Luke 19:40
“I tell you,” he replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.”

Revelation 22:9
But he said, “No, don’t worship me. I am a servant of God, just like you and your brothers the prophets, as well as all who obey what is written in this book. Worship only God!”

Isaiah 29:13
These people come near to me with their mouth and honour me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is based on merely human rules they have been taught.

John 4:19-24
"Sir,” the woman said, “I can see that you are a prophet. 20 Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem.”

21 “Woman,” Jesus replied, “believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. 22 You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”

Revelation 7:9-12:
After this I saw a vast crowd, too great to count, from every nation and tribe and people and language, standing in front of the throne and before the Lamb. They were clothed in white robes and held palm branches in their hands. 10 And they were shouting with a great roar,

“Salvation comes from our God who sits on the throne
    and from the Lamb!”
11 And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living beings. And they fell before the throne with their faces to the ground and worshiped God. 12 They sang,

“Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom
    and thanksgiving and honor
and power and strength belong to our God
    forever and ever! Amen.”

Romans 12:1
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.
