Sunday Recap - Sunday 11th October - ANOINTED Acts Chapter 19

Anointed with Authority -  ACTS Chapter 19 - Pastor Georgie Kettle

Message Overview:

This Sunday, we explored the story of the seven sons of Sceva, some Jewish exorcists who tried to use the name of Jesus without truly knowing Him.
When they attempted to cast out a demon, the evil spirit responded:
“Jesus I know, and Paul I know about, but who are you?” (Acts 19:15)

Their failure revealed a powerful truth: spiritual authority doesn't come from using Jesus' name, but from being in relationship with Jesus.

As followers of Christ, we're called to do more than know about Him. We're called to abide in Him, walk closely with Him, and represent Him with our lives. Real authority flows from a life surrendered to Christ.
The believers in Ephesus responded by burning their occult material, removing anything that competed with their devotion to Jesus. Their example reminds us that intimacy with God requires surrender.

Key Takeaway
The authority of Christ flows from intimacy with Christ, and intimacy with Christ requires surrender.

Reflect
  • Am I pursuing intimacy with Jesus or simply familiarity with Him?
  • Is there anything competing for first place in my heart?
  • What is God asking me to surrender so I can walk more closely with Him?
