Anointed: Acts Chapter 1 - Sunday Feb 15th 2026

Message Overview:

Jonny started our journey through the book of Acts focussing on Acts 1:1-8. Jesus appeared after His resurrection for 40 days to remind The Disciples what lay ahead for them - to go and preach The Gospel, Make Disciples and advance The Kingdom of God.

Before He ascends back to the right hand of The Father, Jesus tells the disciples to wait for the promised Holy Spirit. Waiting for the Holy Spirit was imperative, because without it they could not do what God was calling them to do.

This is the same for us. We to need the person and presence of The Holy Spirit in our lives. We cannot follow Jesus faithfully or push back the Kingdom of darkness in this world in our own strength, wisdom and power. When we accept Jesus as our saviour and lord we become the temple of The Holy Spirit and He indwells us. However scripture indicates that there is a secondary experience after an initial infilling which we are baptised in The Holy Spirit. Jesus said this encounter with The Holy Spirit will give us power to preach the gospel, perform miracles and persevere amongst trials and challenges to be witnesses to the very end of our journey, until we see Jesus face to face.

The baptism in the Holy Spirit and ongoing infilling of the Holy Spirit is something we can ask and desire for in our relationship with God. We need this to operate in the anointing and do all God has asked us to do as His followers.

Key Scriptures:

Acts 1:1-8
In my former book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach 2 until the day he was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had chosen.3 After his suffering, he presented himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God. 4 On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. 5 For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” Then they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?” He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

Luke 8:46
But Jesus said, “Someone touched me; I know that power has gone out from me.”

1 Corinthians 4:20
20 For the kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power.

Romans 15:18-19
I will not venture to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me in leading the Gentiles to obey God by what I have said and done— 19 by the power of signs and wonders, through the power of the Spirit of God. So from Jerusalem all the way around to Illyricum, I have fully proclaimed the gospel of Christ.

Acts 19:11-12
God did extraordinary miracles through Paul, 12 so that even handkerchiefs and aprons that had touched him were taken to the sick, and their illnesses were cured and the evil spirits left them.

1 Corinthians 12:10
To another the working of miracles (miraculous power)

Acts 1: 9-12
9 After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.10 They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. 11 “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”
