Sunday Recap - Pastor Georgie Kettle - 13 July 2025

Sunday 13 July 2025 – Pastor Georgie Kettle

Message Overview:

Last Sunday, Pastor Georgie spoke into 'The Lord's Prayer' in The Sermon on The Mount found in Matthew 6:9-13.
Here, Jesus is giving his disciples a way or manner in which to pray to the Father. As children of God and followers of Christ, we can use this prayer as a template to guide our prayers. See below for a breakdown of the passage.

Matthew 6:9-13
9 Pray then like this:
{Pray in this way or manner}

“Our Father in heaven,
{Intimacy and access to the Father, belonging to him and the family of believers}

hallowed be your name.
{May HIS NAME be made Holy across the Earth and in our lives}

10 Your kingdom come, and your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. {We gain perspective when we consider His ways, His will, His kingdom. These prayers require our submission and humility before the Father, so we can align our will to his will. }

11 Give us this day our daily bread,
{Without Jesus we are utterly helpless. Jesus wants us to ask, He wants to provide, He wants us to be dependant on Him for our needs.}

12 and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
{Acknowledgement of our sinful nature and need for forgiveness. Also not allowing a bitter root of unforgiveness to grow in our hearts. We can't receive His forgiveness, if we haven't offered forgiveness to others.}

13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

{Temptation and trials are and will be a part of life. The enemy has an agenda in our lives and we need God's help to resist.}

Key Scriptures:

Hebrews 5:7
During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with fervent cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission.

Hebrews 5:8-9
8 Son though he was, he learned obedience from what he suffered 9 and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him.

Isaiah 55:8
8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the Lord.

Ephesians 4:30-32
30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. 32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

1 Corinthians 10:13
No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

James 4:7
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
