Sunday Recap - Pastor Jonny Kettle - 7 September 2025

Sunday 7 September 2025 – Pastor Jonny Kettle

Message Overview:

Last Sunday, Pastor Jonny finished our 'Living a Life of Worship' series. The message focussed on Joshua, the leader God to chose to lead The Nation of Israel into The Promised Land.

The sermon was focussed on Joshua Chapter 24:14-15. In these verses, Joshua is close to death and so brings the whole nation of Israel including the leaders, priests and judges for a moment of public recommitment to God. Joshua encourages the people reminding them of Gods faithfulness and all He had fulfilled in bringing them out of slavery in Egypt and into The Promised Land. Joshua makes a declaration of faith for him and his family that they will serve the lord and encourages The Nation of Israel to choose that day and everyday who they will serve.

Ultimately, Jonny encouraged us that living a life of worship is choosing everyday to serve Jesus and make Him number 1 in our lives.

Jonny had 3 encouragements from this passage:

1. We have a choice
- God gives us free will and the choice to serve Him. This is a daily choice we have to make.

2. It begins in our home
- We all have influence and we are to use our influence to pray for those under our care and model to them what it is to follow Jesus.
- Jonny encouraged the men around the influence they have in shaping and forming their children’s decision to follow Jesus and continue with this throughout their lives. A key factor in this was a Father modelling attending and engaging in a church community.

3. The power of recommitment
- As followers of Jesus, we can at anytime make a recommitment to God once again affirming Him as number 1 in our lives. This pleases the heart of God.

Key Scriptures:

Joshua 24:14-15
“So fear the Lord and serve him wholeheartedly. Put away forever the idols your ancestors worshiped when they lived beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt. Serve the Lord alone.15 But if you refuse to serve the Lord, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.”

1 Corinthians 11:1
